Naming Equipment Listings & Assets

Consistent naming conventions make equipment easier to find, identify, market, and report on across Fuelled. Whether cataloguing assets in Asset Manager or creating marketplace listings, equipment names should clearly describe the asset.

Why Naming Matters

A well-named asset helps your team:

  • Find equipment faster using search

  • Improve marketplace visibility and buyer engagement

  • Reduce duplicate records

  • Standardize asset management across locations and business units

  • Make reporting and inventory audits easier

Avoid generic names such as:

❌ Generator
❌ Compressor Package
❌ MCC Building
❌ Heater Unit

These names provide little information and make equipment difficult to identify later.

Recommended Naming Format

Use the following structure whenever possible:

[Key Specification] + [Equipment Type] + [Important Identifier]

Examples:

✅ 25 kW Nat Gas Generator + Air Compressor + PLC
✅ 480V 1200A 3PH MCC Dual 10HP Air Compressor Building
✅ 1.5 MMBTU 1500 ANSI Sour Line Heater
✅ 1000 BBL Steel Production Tank
✅ Caterpillar 3512 Diesel Generator Package
✅ 8" x 10' Horizontal Separator
✅ 400 HP Screw Compressor Package

Include Important Attributes

When relevant, include information such as:

Capacity

  • 25 kW Generator

  • 1000 BBL Tank

  • 1.5 MMBTU Heater

Electrical Ratings

  • 480V MCC

  • 600V Switchgear

  • 1200A Distribution Panel

These names provide little context and make searching, reporting, and marketplace exposure more difficult.

Marketplace Listing Best Practices

When publishing equipment to the Fuelled Marketplace:

  • Use the most descriptive asset name possible.

  • Lead with the most important specification.

  • Include capacity, size, voltage, horsepower, or fuel type where applicable.

  • Avoid internal nicknames or yard references.

  • Write names as if a buyer has never seen the equipment before.

Example

Instead of:

❌ Building 3 Compressor

Use:

✅ 480V 1200A 3PH MCC Dual 10HP Air Compressor Building

Instead of:

❌ Generator Package

Use:

✅ 25 kW Nat Gas Generator + Air Compressor + PLC

General Rule

If someone unfamiliar with your company can understand what the equipment is by reading the name alone, you've likely named it correctly. The goal is for equipment names to be descriptive, searchable, and immediately recognizable across Asset Manager, Marketplace Listings, Reports, and Mobile Apps.
